The Norwegian objected to claims that the veteran forward has been slow since arriving at Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Edinson Cavani’s “great impact” at Manchester United after reaching the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.
Cavani scored a brilliant goal in the 88th minute before Anthony Martial sealed United’s 2-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
The Uruguayan international’s goal came from his fourth shot on goal in the game, which was one of those Everton achieved as a team.
Cavani has scored four goals in 12 games for United this season and Solskjaer praised the forward and dismissed any suggestion that the 33-year-old had gotten off to a slow start at the club.
“I think you are wrong, I don’t think he got off to a slow start. I think he did very well, he was excellent,” the United manager told a press conference.
“He’s obviously injured, anyone can get hurt. He was late [in the transfer window] so I am very satisfied with his influence. In the locker room, his habits that he brings to training, his attitude towards the game. You can see how well it takes care of itself.
“He has scored very important goals for us and he gives us experience, he gives us a lot. He is just going to be here, better and better because he was away for seven months. We have been patient with him and I think he has had a great impact.”
When Cavani and Martial led United to a semi-final against Manchester City, Paul Pogba also delivered an excellent performance from the center of the park.
No player on the field had more key passes (three) or gained possession more often (eight) than the French midfielder.
“Paul is getting fitter and fitter and that’s the most important thing with Paul because his last year and a half has been affected by injuries, and Covid, another injury in the international break,” Solskjaer said.
“I am very satisfied with his performance, very satisfied with his contribution to the team. He is playing better and better and he will probably get better and better.”
Currently third in the Premier League table, United will travel to Leicester City on Saturday with the Foxes one point ahead of the Red Devils in second place.
