Ghanaian forward Solomon Asante captained Phoenix Rising to the USL championship final after they were crowned Western Conference champions.

Asante led Phoenix to beat El Paso Locomotive FC in the Western Conference final on penalties.

The game ended 1-1 in regulation time with Phoenix winning the shootout 4-2.

Jordan Schweitzer opened things up for Phoenix in the 17th minute after his shot drifted off the top of the crossbar and entered.

It looked like it was going to sail smoothly for Phoenix heading into halftime, but El Paso got aggressive in the second half.

Bryam Rebellon would score the tie for El Paso, setting up and firing a shot over Lubin in the 59th minute.

But both teams failed to launch any offense for the remainder of the game, setting overtime, but no goals were produced.

Therefore, the game had to be decided on the penalty shoot-out with rising goalkeeper Lubin as the hero.

Rising will now travel to Tampa Bay to face the Rowdies in the league final on Sunday, November 1.
