Popular Nigerian DJ Obianuju Catherine Udeh, known professionally as DJ Switch, in an interview with the Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development of the Canadian Parliament, revealed that the soldiers, who shot at peaceful #ENDSARS Los Protesters at Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos, on October 20, 2020, said they were sent to the protest ground on orders from above.

To discredit the Nigerian army’s claims that soldiers fired blind bullets into the air, DJ Switch said the soldiers fired at them.

She told the Canadian parliament that she counted no fewer than seven people shot, adding that one of the soldiers threatened to shoot her.

She said: “On October 20, 2020, we had encouraged Nigerians there united with a goal against police brutality against bad government.

“What started as a protest against police brutality with the unit called SARS, unfortunately degenerated into something that I still find difficult to reconcile in my heart.

“We received information that the government wants to see me and six other people and I remember telling them that we don’t have a leader and that if the government wanted to talk to us, they should come to the toll and address the Nigerians because we have been away for eleven days “.

He added that the first shot was heard from behind, adding that it was chaotic as people ran in different directions so as not to be hit by bullets until it was announced that the protesters were to lie on the ground.

He went on to say: “Since we didn’t know where the shots were coming from and what they were about, then the lights went out.

“I remembered that the military entered first, stopped shooting at some point and I approached one of them and asked him why he was shooting at us and he said he had an express order from above, and I was getting too close to him. and if I got too close it would be considered an attack on him and he would have to shoot.

“It didn’t take another ten minutes, the shooting started again. I remember seeing seven people who had been killed and we were telling people on my live Instagram to help us call an ambulance. “

He also added that after a high-ranking military officer ordered the military to stop shooting, the police were sent to the tollbooth and continued to shoot at the protesters, who were still on the protest grounds.

She revealed that she has been in hiding after unknown people threatened her life.

She said she initially thought it was an empty threat until she received a call that the military were trying to arrest her.

“I have been on the move because they have been behind my life. The first threat came, I thought it was a joke, I honestly thought it was a joke.

“Just as I was leaving, I received a phone call telling me that I should leave the surroundings because there are soldiers in the hospital.

“I had to leave my home, I moved from people’s homes and then just to get out of Nigeria. I’m still traveling and I’m not done with my trip, ”revealed DJ Switch.
