Five people were reported to have died, and several others suffered varying degrees of injuries in the early hours of Tuesday when a Ford Transit vehicle and a Hyundai Universe space bus collided at Tefle-Glamanuonyikpo near Sogakope in the Volta region.
Four occupants of the Ford Transit; two women and two men, including the driver’s partner, died at the scene, while another male occupant was also pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, an improper overtaking of the Ford Transit vehicle traveling from Sogakope to Accra caused the accident.
They said that the Ford Transit in an attempt to veer off the road upon sensing danger, collided sideways with the Hyundai Universe Space Bus traveling from Kumasi to Aflao.
Aside from a woman who was identified as a seamstress from Sogakope, the other four dead victims have yet to be identified, but are believed to have traveled from Aflao or Keta to Accra.
