A section of Ghanaians on social media has berated Nana Serwaa Acheampong, the daughter of the late former Ghanaian President General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, for her “insensitive” comments on the death of President Jerry John Rawlings.

Nana Serwaa in a statement released Thursday after news of former President Rawlings’ death reached social media said, among other things, that he (Rawlings) died too easy.

According to her, unlike her father, who was executed by firing squad, Rawlings died comfortably.

She said that she feels cheated because she was denied the presence of her father during her childhood, while the Rawlings children had him by their side and received parental care and protection from him.

“Now he’s dead, and somehow I feel robbed, cheated because unlike my father, Rawlings’ death was too easy, probably too comfortable …

“Now I think that your children and I are the same orphans! But at least they grew up knowing their father, they grew up being cared for and protected by their father. So now, we are not the same. Rawlings took my father away from me with a firing squad, leaving me without a father to support or protect me. Rawlings is dead and I feel cheated, ”read part of his statement.

However, her comments, which were shared on Facebook by political commentator A Plus, have triggered a lot of emotions and disgust in those who see / saw Jerry John Rawlings as their hero, as they have fallen on the young woman for her insensitivity.

They called her out for ignoring the system under which Rawlings operated, and claimed that her father was a ‘traitor’ who deserved what he received.

Others felt that they had lied to him about the real truths of what happened during the revolution, so he should familiarize himself with the story and move on with his life.

General Kutu Acheampong and some senior military officers were executed during the June 4, 1979 revolution organized by JJ Rawlings.

They were executed by the Revolutionary Council of the Armed Forces (AFRC) in 1979 for alleged acts of corruption.

The officers include Lt. Gen. Akwasi Amankwa Afrifa, Gen. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, and General William Fredrick Akwasi Akuffo.

Below are some of the reactions to his statement.
