The Ghana Police Service’s Department of Transport and Motor Traffic (MTTD) has announced that some main roads in Accra will be closed on Tuesday 15 September.
The closure has become necessary as ECOWAS leaders will arrive for a meeting at the Peduase Lodge in Aburi.

At least eight countries of the subregion are expected to participate in said meeting.

According to the superintendent Sasu Mensah of the MTTD, the road closures are to ensure a safe journey without traffic congestion that disrupts the smooth passage of the participants to the meeting.

He announced at a press conference on Sunday that the roads will be temporarily closed and the areas that could experience traffic delays during the visit as follows:

· Kotoka International Airport to Opeibea Liberation Road.

The detour from the airport to the Giffard road to the liberation road

Kempinski Hotel at the National Theater on Independencia Avenue

The liberation road through N4 to Peduase Lodge

The liberation path from 37 to Obasanjo Street, Tang Palace hotel

· Ako-Agyei Independence Avenue.

Superintendent Sasu Mensah warned the general public to adhere to traffic rules and regulations and also think about other alternative routes before leaving their homes to avoid delays and inconvenience.

“They are advised to respect all traffic rules and regulations, in no way should a vehicle follow an approaching convoy.”

“Motorists should pack on the right when they see the convoy approaching, any inconvenience caused will be deeply regretted as highway traffic,” Adomonline.com quoted him as saying.
