The Awutu Senya East Democratic National Congress (NDC) has issued a two-week ultimatum to the Police Service and to the constituency Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson, to inform them of the outcome of a resolution taken after the incident.

According to the constituency’s NDC team, the necessary action would be taken against the MP for causing chaos during the registration exercise for a new voter registration two months ago, if a solution has not been obtained by now.

According to the district secretary, Amadu Tuariq, the party also wants to know when the parliamentarian will replace the burned motorcycles and return his member’s mobile phone that was confiscated to record the scene.

Labeling the media as torchbearers of society, Mr. Tuariq said: “Help us find out from your (IGP) team, when H.E. The MP from this area, Ms Mavis Hawa Koomson, who led the thug to burn the motorcycles and also seize Mr Adu’s phone, will provide the items to the affected people. We are at this press conference, giving the Police and the Hon. The deputy ultimatum of two weeks to respond favorably.

“It will be recalled that on July 20, 2020, at approximately 8:47 am, some suspected PNP thugs here in the Awutu Senya East constituency in the company of their MP, Ms. Hawa Koomson, and the campaign manager, Mr. Anim, who also, in addition, the Deputy Executive Director of the Coastal Development Authority broke into the Steps to Christ Registration Center, fired shots and burned 3 motorcycles belonging to one of the party agents, Edmond M. Morttey and two of our other members, Paul Obaku and Farouk Issaka, who had gone there to guarantee some relatives ”.

Touching the burned motorcycles, Mr. Tuariq declared that his members are in mourning because the destroyed items served as a source of livelihood for these affected people.

“There was also a case of Mr. Adu Hayford, whose phone was confiscated by order of the Hon. MP to record the scene. The three people after filing complaints with the Kasoa District Police, we still have not heard anything. The motorcycles served as their only means of transportation and also as their way of life, “he added.

Mavis Hawa Koomson was invited by the police for questioning on July 24, 2020, after she admitted to firing warning shots at a voting center in her constituency.

According to her, the shots were fired to protect her life, which, according to her, was threatened by some thugs allegedly affiliated with the NDC opposition.

Despite her justification, the minister received several condemnations from both the public and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for resigning for being involved in the act.

However, the police are investigating the case to take the necessary measures.
