Quique Setien is no longer obsessed by his time at Barcelona. The coach was appointed in January and then abruptly fired in August.
His dismissal sparked a legal battle with the club, and now he is left with both positive and negative memories of his time at the Camp Nou.
“I’ve already been through the duel that I had to endure because of what happened in Barcelona,” Setien said. “But it’s something that happens as part of this job.
“If you manage to live isolated from everything, which is what I have done, you can live in peace. I have changed my phone, and they stop me on the street and ask for interviews, but I try to stay the same.
“The experience was extraordinary. It is true that we did not enjoy what we would have liked to enjoy, nor did we do what we wanted in the beginning, but you find that things get complicated.
“Of course I would go back to Barcelona and I don’t regret having gone there. Not at all.”
Much has been written and said about Setien’s time at the club since his departure, but he remains happy with the progress he believes the team made under his leadership.
“The data showed that we improved some things early on,” added Setien.
“We won more balls in half of the opponents, we held possession longer and completed more passes. All of those are objective data.”
When asked if he would return to training soon, the former Real Betis coach explained that he was “not uncomfortable or suffering” and that he is happy to wait.
