The Kwahu Traditional Council and the Ministry of Local Government have commended the MP for the Mpraeso constituency, Seth Kwame Acheampong, for the role he played in transforming the district into a municipality after 32 years of establishment.
The area was established in 1988 under L. I 1988, Law 1742 being Mpraeso the district capital.
However, the District has given birth to four other municipal districts in the Kwahu block, namely: the West Kwahu Municipal Assembly, the East Kwahu District Assembly, South Afram Plains and the North Afram Plains District.
Addressing a meeting on Friday, November 27, 2020, the Vice Minister of Local Government, Mr. Nana Agyei Boateng, revealed that the “most important” role played by the MPraeso deputy is to elevate his area to a Municipal Assembly.
According to him, the recommendation and the deputy attitude towards such a task are exceptional.
He took the opportunity to urge the Assembly to work hard to ensure revenue mobilization.
“Nananom, when you come to Kwahu, there are beautiful mansions but the property prices are low. Now that you have been elevated to the category of Municipal, you have the mandate to ensure your ability to mobilize funds, “he said.
He said the new municipal status of the area will help strengthen leadership and capacity at all levels of the decentralized government machinery and create an environment conducive to enhancing the development of urban and rural cities.
