City’s record scorer was once married to Maradona’s daughter, Giannina, and she is the mother of his son Benjamin.
Argentine striker Agüero also played with Maradona during his time as coach of the national team, including at the 2010 World Cup.
Aguero appeared as a late substitute in City’s win over Olympiacos in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Just hours before the start in Greece, news broke that Maradona, the hero of Argentina’s victory in the 1986 World Cup, had died.
Guardiola said: “Of course it is difficult for me to talk about his feelings.
“I saw it well but the impact on the day of the game against Olympiacos was hard, especially for his son. Of course it was hard, that’s normal. He knew Maradona quite well and, for his son, he was his grandfather.”
“It is a sad situation, unfortunately, for his family, but he is fine.”
Aguero is currently returning to action after knee and hamstring injuries. His 12-minute outing in Piraeus was his first appearance in a month.
Guardiola is confident that the 32-year-old will return to his best level, but is wary of rushing the 32-year-old, who still needs to improve his fitness for the game.
“It’s going to give us good times this season,” said Guardiola, whose team host Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.
“He is not in his best shape yet, but we cannot forget the duration of his injury. Then he came back and got injured again.
“In the middle of the season he is a guy who needs to be very ready to score goals in the area, but we have no doubts.
“He needs a little time to do it and, in training and in minutes, he will. Then he will still have seven months to show for it.”
Aguero is now in the final year of his contract at Etihad Stadium but Guardiola insists there is no pressure on the player to make a decision about his future.
The City manager said: “He is a guy who deserves, with the club, fair conversations to do what is best for him, for the club, for everyone.”
“I have been fortunate to play and coach with incredible footballers and he is one of them. I have never met a great star like him.”
The return of Agüero, as well as that of Gabriel Jesús in recent weeks, is timely given the City’s problems in front of goal this season. On a slow start, City have won just three of eight Premier League games and scored just 10 goals.
Guardiola said: “We have to continue with the good feelings that we have lately and on Saturday, from the beginning, try to move forward and try to score more goals.
“One day we will break and score more goals, and we will put on the table what we deserve.
“It’s time to put more players in the box, be positive and sooner or later it’s going to happen.”
