Sergio Agüero has yet to receive a formal offer from Barcelona.
There has been a lot of speculation in Spain and Argentina that Barcelona are ready to make a move for the Manchester City forward.
City legend Aguero has no contract at the Etihad this summer and could still be persuaded to stick with a new contract with his future undecided.
But Barcelona are also unclear about their plans despite the fact that Joan Laporta has been reincorporated to the Camp Nou for a second stage as club president.
Aguero, 32, and his representatives have not had a formal offer or proposal from Barcelona, and it is unlikely they will be able to make further plans until Laporta and his team have a better idea of the club’s finances.
Barcelona has been affected by a financial crisis and already faces a great battle on their hands to try to keep Lionel Messi.
The Spanish giants crashed in the Champions League this week against Paris Saint Germain and an early exit from Europe will not have helped their finances.
He is second in La Liga, behind Atlético de Madrid but ahead of Real Madrid but it has been a difficult season with Messi’s saga overshadowing everything.
Laporta hopes to persuade Messi to stay, but the 33-year-old has no contract this summer.
Reports in Spain suggest that Messi will be Laporta’s number one priority before attempting to launch a rebuilding plan at the Camp Nou.
Aguero has found himself frustrated at City this season despite being one of the best players in club history and also Pep Guardiola looking for a new striker this summer.
Aguero has only had four starts this season in another season interrupted by injuries, but City boss Guardiola has made strong rumors about wanting to keep the Argentine superstar beyond his current contract.
