Ghana’s top soccer officials and some former national stars are in Sunyani to mourn the family of Black Stars legend Kwasi Owusu.
A delegation from the Ghana Football Association led by Brong Ahafo Regional President Ralph Gyambrah, Executive Council members Nana Sarfo Oduro and Kingsley Osei Bonsu attended the funeral of the late national star at Victoria Park in Sunyani.
The legendary Ghanaian ex-footballer died on Monday, March 30, 2020, after fighting a disease. He played and won silver at the 1970 African Cup of Nations in Sudan and was captain of Ghana for more than a decade.
He was captain of the Black Stars squad that finished second at the 1970 African Cup of Nations in Sudan and until 2013 was Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 39 goals, a record currently surpassed by Asamoah Gyan.
At the club level, he will be remembered for his days at Bofoakwa Tano FC. The former Black Stars captain was a prolific scorer, his legacy and career on and off the pitch will not be forgotten and he will truly be missed.
He was 72 years old. May his soul rest in peace
