Kwame Twum Ampofo, a member of Parliament elected by the infamous Sene West constituency, says the constituency is a stronghold for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) despite the margin of votes between him and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate ) in the recently completed parliamentary elections.
He explained that he is not bothered by the 16-vote margin that could threaten the fate of the NDC in the next election.
“I’m not worried because every victory is a victory, every time you go for a game and the game becomes difficult, you have to change your strategy, to the extent that you win, you win. If you go through transparent or free and fair elections, NDC is very strong and traditional party in Sene West, so I don’t think the NDC will go down, even though the vote is close.
“The 16 vote margin does not mean that NDC can lose the election next time. We are going to make sure we widen the gap so far that the party is concerned about. The party hierarchy will sit in and we will all sit down and strategize and make sure we move forward in the next elections in 2024.
Ampofo won Sene West’s seat on the NDC ticket for 13,116 to the NPP candidate for 13,100. A 16-vote margin after a legal challenge delayed the tallying and gathering of results for more than a week until Thursday, when the EC declared the results.
Sene West was the only prominent seat in the parliamentary elections in which the PNP won 137 seats in Parliament, while the NDC had 136 seats and one independent candidate.
The NDC’s victory in Sene West raised its seats in the Eighth Parliament to 137.
He expressed his gratitude to the constituents for having given him the power to continue his mandate.
“I have to thank all the people of Sene West for giving me the go-ahead to continue my work.
