Former Deputy Information Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu says naming the slain MP’s wife as his replacement is undemocratic.

According to him, the party should have allowed fair competition for delegates to select those they believe are worthy of the position.

For him, the party was supposed to give equal conditions to party members who would have been interested in the position because the party attended the primaries and some people fought for the seat.

“I believe that both parties must let democracy work at all times and at all levels. I also believe that meritocracy should also be allowed so that people who deserve certain positions have that opportunity so they don’t feel bad about it. If someone dies and his wife is an active member of the reputable political party and is legitimately competing for the seat and wins fairly.

But if she is selected because she is the person’s wife, it can create difficulties for the party. This is because others will say that we just had primaries and some people lost, so the best thing was to have organized another primary so that people who are willing to compete can attend so that people can choose whoever represents them ”.

On claims that voters are chanting for his wife to replace him, Felix Ofosu Kwakye noted that “chants can be organized and not be representative of all district delegates. For me, a democratic route is better than depending on sympathy ”.

Ophelia Hayford has been postponed to replace her husband for the impending election.

Reports indicate that she has since resigned from the Ghana Police Service and is ready to fight for the position vacated by her husband Ekow Hayford, who was killed by armed robbers on Friday.
