The Sekyere East District Executive Director (DCE) in Effiduase in the Ashanti region, Mary Boatemaa Marfo, was fired from her position by the President.
In a letter written by a Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Kwasi Boateng Adjei, to the Regional Minister of Ashanti it is stated that the president’s decision takes effect immediately.
Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah has been tasked with assuming oversight responsibility until a new DCE is appointed.
Mary Boatemaa Marfo’s firing comes after she allegedly vowed to reduce PNP votes in the Effiduase-Asokore constituency during the December 7 elections.
In leaked audio, the DCE was heard in conversation with a party member saying that it will frustrate voters on Election Day, which in turn will reduce the votes of the NPP and MP, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie .
In the past, the deputy accused the DCE of thwarting his efforts to develop the constituency.
In 2019, Mary Marfo had alleged that Dr. Afriyie assaulted her and investigations showed that her statements were false.
This latest development is viewed by many in the District as a clear and deliberate effort to make the party and the MP unpopular.
