As part of moves to boost economic activities in the western region, the next main opposition NDC government has outlined plans to upgrade Sekondi’s central market.
This was announced by Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, a candidate for the vice-presidency of the NDC.
He also assured the Sekondi bosses of the NDC’s commitment to carry out this project.
In addition, he said that the Sekondi-Takoradi Cultural Center would be renovated, while the city’s roads would be updated in accordance with the NDC’s infrastructure development plan.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang gave the guarantee during an interaction with members of the Sekondi Traditional Council as part of their campaign tour of the western region.
Responding to a series of requests from the bosses, the running mate explained that the improvement of the Sekondi central market and the roads in Sekondi-Takoradi was included in the party’s manifesto, adding that those projects would be carried out with funds from the 10 billion dollars of the party. “Big push” for infrastructure development if it gains powers.
“When we promise, we deliver,” he said, citing many obvious promises that the previous NDC administration delivered in the region.
Referring to a request for more jobs for youth in the area, Professor Opoku-Agyemang said that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the region would be prioritized to allow more youth in the region to be technically equipped . to access industrial jobs, especially in the oil and gas and food processing sectors.
Regarding unpaid compensation for lands taken by the state during the Kufuor-led government for projects, the running mate promised that chiefs’ concerns on that issue would be effectively addressed when the NDC returns to power.
The running mate asked the chiefs and people of Sekondi to vote for the NDC for significant change, stating that an NDC government would ensure that development in the various sectors of the economy, particularly the oil and gas sector, was beneficial to the people of the region.
“We assure you that the NDC will follow a national development agenda without marginalization,” he emphasized.
Nana Barima Ekow Gyesa II, Acting Chairperson of the Sekondi Traditional Council, welcoming the running mate, expressed disappointment that although the current government promised to address her concerns regarding land compensation, job creation and the improvement of the Sekondi market, none had been fulfilled. .
He believed that since development had to be beneficial to the people, progress in the oil and gas sector should be reflected in the well-being of the people, particularly the youth of the region.
“We are optimistic that he will help meet our needs when he gains power,” he told the running mate.
