CDD-Ghana Director of Advocacy and Policy Engagement, Dr. Kojo Pumpuni Asante says there is a history of “no action” among law enforcement agencies in the country.

This, he says, is due to the numerous attacks and unsolved security issues over the years.

Speaking in a Newsfile interview on JoyNews, Mr. Asante argued that the current stance of security agencies, if not resolved, will lead to the formation of more vigilante groups.

“At the moment, it is as if the citizens do not see that the law will take care of you, then they will either take the law into their own hands or they will fight,” he added.

Mr. Asante told the host, Samson Lardy Anyenini that it is therefore important that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh, organize a press conference and update citizens on all pending cases that they have threatened peace and security in the country. .

Referring to the recent clashes between supporters of the two main political parties, the PNP and the NDC in the Odododiodio constituency and security ahead of the 2020 elections, Mr. Daniel Armah Attoh, who is the Research Manager from CDD-Ghana said violence in politics was unnecessary.

According to him, the pre-election survey carried out by the organization indicated that these acts were not justified.

“We have a majority of Ghanaians, about 87% to 92%, who said they do not support the destruction of private or even public property.

“They do not support violence perpetrated by supporters of political parties and neither do they support the destruction of campaign materials.

“So in general, when you look at the bigger picture, Ghanaians are not in favor of violence in our electoral processes,” he concluded.
