Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has expressed disappointment at what he describes as false rumors and propaganda from people who label themselves as security experts.
He looked at recent reports of people postulating his analysis of the activities of the Western Togolese secessionists and how they can be resolved as examples.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah indicated that these people were confidently making claims based on false hearsay and were guilty of feeding inaccuracies that the public consumed as truth.
“There are also a good number of people who claim to have security experience and apply in everything. And sometimes repeating rumors, to the extent that rumors now seem to be truths that we now have to pursue… ”he told GhanaWeb in an exclusive interview on an Election Desk program that has not yet aired.
He cited a report where a security analyst alleged live that a foreign country’s embassy in Ghana supported the efforts of secessionist groups in 2017 as an example of such misconceptions.
“… There is a lot of A, false propaganda, B, there are also many people who pretend to be security bosses who repeat some of these rumors… I will tell you another that was said, that their petition was edited by an embassy in West Africa. And this was actually said by an alleged security person live on national television without question.
So it becomes part of the national conversation … and now we have to start chasing all of those. That is why we are suggesting that we stick to the facts that we know to be; the facts as proven. And let’s not give too much oxygen and fuel to false propaganda and misrepresentations ”, warned the Minister of Information.
Security analyst Paul Boateng told Kasapa FM’s Akwasi Nsiah in an interview on Wednesday, September 30, that said Embassy in 2017 trained and assisted the secessionist group to officially write to the United Nations to recognize their ‘country’, ‘ West Togoland ‘as an independent state.
“I say this because I know that in 2017, the Embassy of a foreign country in Ghana guided this secessionist group to write to the UN. This group has been stirring since 2006 and it is important that we treat them quickly, ”he said.
A group of people believed to be part of the western Togolese separatists attacked the State Transportation Corporation (STC) in Ho, the regional capital of Volta on Monday at dawn.
Their actions were a second wave of an earlier attack that they carried out in the North Tongu constituency and surrounding areas on Friday, September 25.
