School reopening is in order – GNAT

The Ghana National Teachers Association (GNAT) in Accra has called the reopening of schools laudable and urged parents to prepare for their children to go back to school.

“In my opinion, the reopening is in order because schools cannot be closed perpetually,” said Mr. Nicholas Taylor, from the GNAT Department of Administration and Organization.

However, he asked the government to provide the necessary necessities to make the stay at the school safer for students. Mr Taylor told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that parents did not have much time to prepare, “so the announcement should have come earlier to give parents time to prepare their rooms for the reopening. “.

“Again, now that the basic school is reopening at full capacity, I don’t know how prepared the government is when it comes to distributing PPE to schools,” he noted.

The GNAT official asked school authorities to guarantee social distancing arrangements and a constant supply of water.

“We, as teachers, are ready and willing to go back to school to continue our work.

“All we demand of the government is that it really implement the necessary measures to avoid endangering the lives of students and teachers.”

Meanwhile, some parents who spoke to GNA said they were happy with the government’s decision, but regretted the cost involved in getting children back to school in such a short time.

“I ask my children to try on their uniforms this morning and, to my surprise, I really have to buy new uniforms for the three children,” said one parent.
