The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, is urging the electorates to save Ghana by rejecting the government led by Akufo-Addo.
Mahama said that a renewal of the incumbent’s term would spell ruin for the country, given the unprecedented level of corruption that the president oversees.
Addressing NDC supporters in Jamboi in the Kpandai constituency on Friday as part of his campaign tour of the northern region, Mahama said that instead of waging a war on corruption in his government, the president has become in a protector and defender of his corrupt appointments who are largely members of his family.
He added that President Akufo-Addo has also not kept his 2016 election promises.
“There are some politicians who believe that the important thing is power and what you do or say to achieve it does not matter. Check out promises like One District One Factory, One Million Dollars per District Every Year, and One Village One Dam, among others.
“So you have to accomplish something before you ask for four more, but in this case, it’s four more to do what?” Asked the NDC presidential candidate.
He said Ghanaians can no longer be fooled by the PNP government as they did in 2016, adding that the realities of bad governance under President Akufo-Addo are there for all to see.
Mahama said that President Akufo-Addo’s dismal performance in office, coupled with the unprecedented level of corruption he oversees and his lack of commitment to fighting corruption are grounds for electorates to oust the government overall from the December 7, 2020. elections.
“It is important that Ghanaians show them a red card on December 7, 2020 and bring back the NDC to create prosperity for all Ghanaians; not a few privileged members of the president’s family and friends.
Mahama was also concerned about how the Akufo-Addo-led government has taken yam growers for granted and has literally collapsed the yam market.
According to him, the next NDC government will revive the yam market by ensuring that farmers earn a decent income from their sweat and labor.
He said that to modernize the agricultural sector, the next NDC government would establish Agricultural Mechanization Centers in districts across the country to ease the burden on farmers and also make farming more attractive to youth.
These centers, Mahama explained, would be equipped with agricultural machinery such as tractors, plows, seeders and harvesters, among others, to allow farmers to access these services to boost food production in the country.
