Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa condemns the secessionist attack in Aveyime, Mepe

North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has condemned the invasion of armed men believed to be members of the Western Togolese secession group in some communities in his constituency.

This occurs after an alleged group of armed men attacked the Aveyime and Mepe Police Stations in the early hours of Friday.

The group reportedly forcibly seized both stations simultaneously, overpowered the police officers, broke into the armory and took all the weapons.

The group of about 50 supposedly made up of locals from Mepe, Aveyime, Battor and the surrounding communities, later sang war songs and rejoiced at the success of their operations.

However, in a Facebook post on Friday, Ablakwa described the act as unprecedented, adding that the display is “total impunity with law enforcement that appears defenseless even when some of their counterparts became victims.”

It then tasked the government with providing answers to the question about the incident and tightening security for the protection of its constituents.

The former Education Minister also urged his constituents to exercise great restraint.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the injured and hospitalized as we continue to assess the death toll.

“We hope we can count on the state to undertake credible and impartial investigations to unravel the real motives and the true intellectual authors behind this violent incursion,” he added.

In 2019, Ablakwa condemned the moves of members of the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF) to secede from a part of Ghana and become ‘Western Togo’.

According to him, the secessionist movement is an insult to Ghanaian history and urged people in the demarcated area not to support the octogenarian-led Balkanization movement. Kwame Kudzordjie.

Meanwhile, security personnel made up of the military and police have been deployed in the area to ensure order.
