Sam Allardyce regrets new Brexit rules which according to him have already ruined three transfers – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Score, Results

West Brom boss Sam Allardyce has revealed that new Brexit regulations have already hurt his transfer plans.

The Baggies were forced to withdraw from three deals after it became clear that the players would not qualify for a work permit.

Points will be awarded for international senior and youth appearances, club appearances and the pedigree of the selling club after the UK completed its separation from the European Union on New Years Eve.

Albion is ranked second in the Premier League after Saturday’s 4-0 loss to Arsenal and Allardyce finds his search for reinforcements in January hampered by new red tape.

He said: ‘I already found three players who were capable of coming here and they are not allowed. It’s a shame.

“Due to the new regulations regarding the permit, they could not come to this country, whereas (previously) they would have. I have to look at that and think ‘can you qualify?’

That has made life a little more difficult. It’s not so much the pandemic, it’s the rule change due to the Brexit agreement.

“ We will do what we can and finding a player in this pandemic will be the hardest window I have ever worked on.

‘Without disrespecting my players here because everyone is working as hard as they can, but I have to find something better to lift the team.

“Whichever player comes in, he has to be better than the one we have and able to make the team almost immediately.”

Albion suffered another strong loss at home on Saturday to the Gunners, after Leeds defeated them 5-0.

Alexandre Lacazette scored a double in the second half after Kieran Tierney and Bukayo Saka gave the visitors a comfortable lead at half-time.

The Gunners moved up to 11th after a third straight win and are three points behind the top six, having played one more game.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was left blank and has only scored once in his last eight games, but manager Mikel Arteta is pleased that his players shared the goals.

He said: ‘I keep saying, we can’t keep putting all the weight on Auba’s shoulders to score the goals. We need contributions.

“The midfielders need to score more and give more assists, and we also need goals from our wingers. Laca is in great shape and has scored five goals in his last four games, which is what we need from our forwards.

“Auba had some chances to score and it was the same in the last game, but I am very happy because in the last third we were encouraged and there was a lot of movement.”
