Former Egyptian striker Mido has not held back in his criticism of his national team and star Mohamed Salah.

The Liverpool forward tested positive for coronavirus just days after attending his brother’s wedding in Cairo, Egypt.

Salah has been isolated in his homeland after registering a positive test last Friday, on the eve of Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Togo.

Mido, who played 51 games for Egypt, has condemned his compatriot for attending his brother’s wedding before an international match.

“I know I may be under attack after my next comments, but it has to be this way,” he told Al-Nahar TV.

‘Mohamed Salah made a big mistake by attending his brother’s wedding a few days before the Egyptian national team game, he showed great negligence with the measures taken to prevent the coronavirus and the result was that he was infected.

‘Mohamed Salah’s carelessness caused the Egyptian team to lose an important player in a very important game and time, and also put the health of his teammates at risk.

‘He shouldn’t have been present at his brother’s wedding, especially at that time. The wedding included more than 800 people, and half of them agreed to hug and kiss Salah ‘.

In Mido’s spiel, he also launched a tirade at officials within the Egyptian national team setup, calling them ‘cowards’ for not taking action because they are ‘scared’.

“The other point here is the silence of all those responsible for the negligence of the player, which confirms that the player is still bigger than the national team and that will lead to a great failure,” he added.

“When I missed the 2006 African Cup of Nations, I was punished by missing the final and being excluded from the national team for six months. We lost the final, I was young and I think I’m older than the team, but now I confirm that no one is bigger than the team, and if anyone thinks that, it will be a big failure.

Egyptian officials did not address any words of blame or reproach to Mohamed Salah and the harm caused by his negligence to the Egyptian team, and named each of the Sports Ministers Ashraf Sobhi, EFA President Amr Al-Ganayni, the el coach of the national team Hossam Al-Badri, and the director of the national team Mohamed Barakat, all are cowards and fear the fans of Mohamed Salah who love the Liverpool star, but here I speak without calculation or fear of anyone, and what is said must be told to me.

No one can say that Salah was not wrong in going to his brother’s wedding at that difficult time and in light of the crown crisis, all the English newspapers speak against us negatively. Salah should have been blamed for what he did, but everyone is scared.

Salah, who was said to have experienced mild symptoms over the weekend, thanked fans for messages of support and hopes he will return to the field “soon.”

He wrote on Twitter: ‘I would like to thank everyone for the messages of support and good wishes. I’m sure I’ll be back on the pitch soon. ‘

It was reported Monday that Salah could return to Liverpool this week if he tests negative for coronavirus on Thursday, according to the Egyptian Health Ministry, with the forward betting on returning for the decisive clash against Leicester on Sunday night.
