RS Berkane edged Hassania Agadir 2-1 in the 2019/20 CAF Confederation Cup semi-final match at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Monday night.
The victory sees the Oranges advance to the final of the Confederation Cup for the second year in a row, while their Moroccan rivals Hassania withdrew from the tournament.
The Oranges pressed for a goal early in the opening stages of the encounter with Mouhssine Iajour wreaking havoc on the Sousse Gazelle defense.
Berkane was awarded a penalty after Soufiane Bouftini fouled Iajour in the area in the 18th minute and referee Jean Jacques Ndala signaled the point.
Mohamed Aziz stepped forward and edged Hassania captain and goalkeeper Abderrahman El Hoausli from the penalty spot to make Berkane 1-0 in the 20th minute.
The lead lasted just 10 minutes, however, as the ball fell kindly to Imad Kimaoui in the box and passed Berkane goalkeeper Zouhair Laaroubi to make it 1-1.
The Oranges continued to attack after conceding and thought they had managed to regain the lead six minutes from the end of the break.
Iajour beat El Houasli with a simple header, but the goal was disallowed for offside and the score was 1-1 at half-time.
Berkane were the better team after the restart, as they sought their second goal of the match and got it just after the hour.
Amine Sadiki was tried for having handled the ball in the area and the Naranjas received another penalty.
Aziz, who is a scoring left-back, stepped up and edged El Houausil for the second time from the penalty spot to make Berkane 2-1 in the 61st minute.
Sousse’s Gazelle pushed for the tying goal in the later stages of the match, and coach Mustapha Ouchrif introduced Saad Morsli and Tamer Seyam.
However, the Oranges held their ground at the back and eventually Berkane emerged victorious 2-1 and will face the Egyptian pyramids or Guinean giant AC Horoya in the final later this month.
