Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed Pelé as the second top scorer of all time with a double for Juventus in their 4-1 win against Udinese on Sunday.
The Portuguese forward scored his 757 and 758 goals of his illustrious career and the goals came in either half as Andrea Pirlo’s team climbed to fifth place in the Serie A table.
Pelé recorded 757 goals during his career with Santos, New York Cosmos and Brazil between 1956 and 1977, but now ranks third on the all-time list with Ronaldo now one behind Josef Bican’s total of 759.
Ronaldo can equal and outshine Bican when Juventus visit AC Milan on Wednesday night, which will be a crucial match for the defense of the Serie A champion title.
Juventus are ten points behind leaders Milan with one game in hand, although three points against Stefano Pioli’s team could lead them back into the Scudetto contest.
Ronaldo now has 656 career goals since his first season at Sporting Lisbon in 2002, with the majority of the goals coming at Real Madrid.
The 35-year-old scored 450 goals in 438 appearances while playing in the Spanish capital, although Ronaldo also has an estimated goal score on the international stage.
The forward has 102 goals in 120 appearances for Portugal and that tally is expected to grow as Fernando Santos’ side looks to defend their Eurocup title this summer.
It means that former Manchester United player Ronaldo averages a whopping 42 goals per season over his 18-year career for both the club and the country.
Meanwhile, Barcelona captain Lionel Messi is behind Ronaldo in the all-time club and country record with 742 goals, although the Argentine forward has achieved this total by playing 200 fewer games in his career than the club star. Juventus.
Messi also holds the record for the most goals scored for a single club, 644 goals, another record held by Pelé until the Barcelona man broke it last month with a goal against Valladolid.
Since then, the Argentine has given a bottle of Budweiser to each goalkeeper he has scored against, and the caps receive multiple bottles if they concede more than one goal.
However, Pelé’s former club Santos issued a statement that Messi did not break the Brazilian forward’s record last month, as he actually scored 1,091 during his career in the 20th century.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s double against Juventus was his fourteenth goal of the season in the league with the 35-year-old who currently tops the Italian top-flight goalscoring charts.
