Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski won FIFA’s The Best award, beating Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and former Real Madrid player Cristiano Ronaldo according to Diario Sport.
The Pole won the treble with Bayern last season, the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the Champions League. He was also the top scorer in each of these tournaments.
Messi and Ronaldo have won four of the five such awards given since they created it in 2016. Ronaldo won it during the first two years, while Messi won it the last two, and Madrid playmaker Luka Modric won it in 2018.
Lewandowski received the award at age 32, after a long and successful career in the Bundesliga. There he won eight titles, six with Bayern and two with Borussia Dortmund.
He represented Poland 116 times, scored 63 goals and represented his country at the 2012 and 2016 European Championships (where they reached the quarter-finals), as well as at the 2018 World Cup.
