Rob Green gives verdict on Chelsea ahead of new season

Rob Green believes Chelsea must find an ugly way to win in the upcoming Premier League season, which begins for them next Monday in Brighton.

Frank Lampard guided the Blues to fourth place in the league last season during his first year in charge, something that was deemed a success due to the fact that he was working under a transfer ban.

But the pressure on his team has increased for this new campaign as they have been very busy in the transfer market and have signed some top class players.

Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz have moved to Stamford Bridge to help in the future, while Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva are two signed defensive options for the first team.

Green has predicted that Chelsea will finish second in the table in the new Premier League season behind Manchester City and also explained what they need to add to their game.

“What Chelsea have lacked is the consistency and relentlessness that Liverpool have. This is the season where they need to find those ways to win matches when things don’t go their way, “Green told BBC Sport.

Chelsea was amazing to watch last season at times and played some flashy things, but Green is correct that finding ways to win is more important than style.

Lampard should have a kit that is even more aesthetically pleasing and that needs to be combined with one that is also difficult to build.

There is no official news from Chelsea camp that they want to compete for the title, but the marquee signings suggest otherwise and fighting alongside the best has to be the goal and they must toughen up defensively to achieve it.
