The 40 Under 40 Awards named Richard Addison as one of the Emerging Leaders in Agriculture for 2020 earlier this month.
Originally from the western region, Richard has always maintained great contact with his roots and has been a great contributor to the youth of Secondi Takoradi. Through ‘The Richard Addison Foundation’, it has provided clean drinking water to communities, as well as sanitary facilities under TRAF.
It sponsored more than 100 people to enroll in the National Health Plan in some villages in the Secondi Takoradi area.
He also has some students within the Takoradi area on an educational scholarship and hired a few others in the field of art.
He mobilized young musicians from the Western Region, brought them together, and organized training programs and seminars to prepare them for the music market.
Richard Addison, who is the mastermind behind Kent Farms, believes that the new Africa would have to take agriculture a little more seriously if it seeks to grow its economies and care for its people and even the world.
In agriculture, Richard and his team have started rice farms in Ghana, which they hope to expand to other rice growing areas in Africa, as well as investing in poultry.
A 50 acre rice farm that started as 30 acres in Sharma district in 2014 employs more than 100 locals from preparing the land, planting, harvesting and milling to transporting products to market.
The 40 Under 40 Awards are an established scheme to identify, honor and celebrate a cross-section of the country’s most influential and accomplished young business leaders under the age of forty from a wide range of industries, who are committed to business growth, professional excellence, and community service and, as a result, have risen through the ranks in their companies or industries at a relatively young age.
