On Tuesday night, thousands of people took to the streets of Wa, the capital of Upper West Regional, to welcome John Mahama, the standard-bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The former president arrived a day earlier for a four-day tour of the region from Wednesday to Saturday.
He was greeted on the outskirts of Wa by thousands of motorcyclists with others in vehicles amid singing and dancing.
He thanked people for what he described as a “tumultuous and invigorating welcome.”
The statement said that during the tour he will meet with leaders, opinion leaders, organized groups and leaders of religious bodies and will address various communities in the Region.
Mahama is expected to return to Accra on Sunday before the launch of the Party’s manifesto for the 2020 elections on September 7.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mahama’s running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is on a tour of the North West region.
He is also expected to wrap up his tour at the weekend and return to Accra in time for the manifesto launch.
