According to a report from Marca, Bayern Munich wanted Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde to replace Thiago Alcántara, who moved to Liverpool this summer. The Bavarians reportedly saw the Uruguayan as a perfect complement to their style of play, but the deal never came. Neither the player nor his club wanted the play to take place.
The entire Marca report reads like blatant Real Madrid propaganda, as you might expect. However, an interesting piece of information for Bayern fans will be the mention of the “special relationship” between the two clubs, which prevented Bayern from using aggressive tactics to sign the player. If the interest reported by Bayern was real, then this reasoning is valid, because both clubs seem to value having good relations with each other. When Madrid were trying to sign Robert Lewandowski, they didn’t take him very far to stay on the good side of the Bavarians.
Federico Valverde is indeed a very talented player, so it is not surprising to learn that we could have been interested in him. But Bayern need not worry, because Joshua Kimmmich has put himself in Thiago’s place without problems.
