Renan Lodi at home after a positive coronavirus test when Atlético players return to training

The Brazilian is reportedly an asymptomatic carrier of the virus and did not participate in his club’s first practice after the shutdown.

Atlético de Madrid returned to training on Saturday amid reports that Renan Lodi tested positive for coronavirus.

The club welcomed the players to its complex, but Lodi was apparently not one of the team members of head coach Diego Simeone to present himself for the service.

The 22-year-old Brazilian left back is asymptomatic, Brand reported, and must test negative before he can resume work at the Atleti facility.

Atlético has not officially commented on Lodi’s health situation, but the club seems to allude to his situation with a Twitter message to his followers.

It said: “Renan Lodi greets you from home. See you soon in the field!”

Lodi has been a regular on Simeone’s team this season, starting 20 La Liga games in his first season in Spain.

The Atlético players trained individually on Saturday, spread across various fields to allow for social distancing.

One player who was able to participate was Uruguayan defender José María Giménez, who stated that he was delighted to return to action with his teammates after the prolonged interruption.

“More than nervous, I was a little anxious to finally get here, to be able to train, see my colleagues, the ball on the field … There was a lot of excitement,” he told the club’s official website.

“After so long you feel it in your legs, but it was very nice.”

Coach Simeone donned a mask and gloves to oversee Saturday’s session, while maintaining a strict distance between players at all times, something that left Thomas Partey somewhat puzzled.

“It was different, at first we had problems because we were not used to the distance, but we will get used to it,” he said.

“We are used to having our holidays, training and playing with friends, but in this case I could only stay at home. It was difficult, but we had to adapt to the situation and continue training at home as we could, and in the end we succeeded.”

Barcelona returned to training on Friday and the Real Madrid team will meet on Monday, with the League aiming for a restart in mid-June.

The league was suspended in March due to the Covid-19 crisis.
