Reject anyone who divides us along tribal lines – Bawumia

The vice president has advised Ghanaians to reject anyone seeking higher office by inciting and stoking divisions between the various ethnic groups that have peacefully existed.

Addressing Gushegu chiefs and people in the northern region on Sunday, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia underscored the need for Ghanaians to peacefully coexist regardless of their religious and ethnic differences in order to achieve national cohesion and development.

He claimed that President Akufo-Addo, although an Akyem, has achieved the desire to restore peace and tranquility to Dagbon after decades of fighting and misunderstandings over questions of leadership.

President Akufo-Addo is an Akyem, but he was particularly concerned about the lack of peace in Dagbon. The achievement of peace had eluded many governments before him, but as he promised in 2016, he has ensured the completion of the final funeral rites, for a new Ya-Na to be skinned.

“That is why we must continue to support him because no amount of money can buy peace. Let’s vote for him in December, ”said Dr. Bawumia.

His comment follows claims by President Akufo-Addo that John Mahama has endorsed a post by Bolgatanga Central Member of Parliament Isaac Adongo, describing people in his government as ‘Akyem Sakawa Mafias’ who are looting the state.

“How do you take a whole tribe and say they are Sakawa? How do you do that? ”Dr. Bawumia asked.

He stressed that the NDC standard-bearer cannot win the 2020 general election with tribalism.

“Ghana has gone beyond tribalism. Come show your proficiency in delivering to the people of Ghana. Since he cannot prove his competence, he is turning to tribalism. We (Ghanaians) will not support tribalism, ”Bawumia said.

“President Akufo-Addo remains a man of peace and unity, and Ghanaians will support his tireless efforts to make Ghana a peaceful country, united with one destiny,” he stressed.

“We must make sure we reject a president who will divide our ranks and ensure that we are not one people because this will rob us of necessary development. You cannot foster tribalism and divisions in your attempt to rule Ghana, ”Dr. Bawumia concluded.
