Former New Patriotic Party (PNP) legislator from the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa constituency, PC Appiah Ofori, has expressed regret at rejecting an offer made to him by former President John Dramani Mahama to serve in his government.

The anti-corruption activist said he rejected the offer immediately after his unwavering loyalty to the PNP and then opposition leader and now Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

PC Appiah Ofori rose to prominence in the political arena in Ghana after constantly criticizing allegations of corruption against the John Agyekum Kuffuor administration after the PNP lost the 2008 elections.

In 2009, he revealed in his testimony before the inter-ministerial committee charged with reviewing the sale of Ghana Telecom that all NPP MPs who voted for the sale were paid $ 5,000 each.

He told TV3’s Johnnie Hughes in an exclusive interview on Monday, September 28, 2020 that “John Mahama himself called me and said that he wanted me to play a role in his administration and I told him that if he himself involved in corruption, I would not hesitate to expose it.

“He told me that’s why he wanted me to come and be a checkpoint for him and his ministers, but I didn’t take the position because if I joined the NDC administration, it would mean that I had left NPP and left Akufo. -Added, I told him that I will not take office, but any corrupt practice that takes place in his administration and that comes to my attention, I will call his attention ”.

When asked if he regrets not having assumed that position, he said: “As a nation, as a country for the best of Ghana, I think that if I had placed Ghana’s interests above the party and reached that position, I think that there would be for all those involved in acts of corruption to be prosecuted. So I have regretted that. “

Furthermore, he revealed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has neglected him after winning the 2016 election to become president.

“I defended Akufo-Addo and supported him from 2007 until he assumed the presidency in 2017. I am not happy with my abandonment. I’m not happy about the way Akufo-Addo doesn’t know me again.

“Either you have blocked my line or you have changed your line. If I call it, it won’t go [through]. I personally asked Akufo-Addo to want to be sent to the board of the [Office of] Special prosecutor for me to become the investigator but there is no response from him.

“I wrote the letter as soon as the Special Prosecutor was appointed. I just wanted to go there to investigate all these reports from the Auditor General. Some of the Auditor General’s reports are not complete enough. “
