Tarkwas chiefs, elders and residents took to the streets on Tuesday to demand the reinstatement of Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko II as the supreme chief of Wassa Fiase in the western region.
The protesters, dressed in red, marched with their demands, warning that they would advise themselves if their Supreme Chief is not reinstated before the end of the year.
The angry chiefs and residents also called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to intervene in the matter in order to restore peace in the area.
In a statement after the rally, the queen mother of the traditional council of Wassa Fiase, Nana Abena Kunadjoa II, convinced President Akufo-Addo to provide the traditional council with adequate security to allow Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko II to be reinstated as Omanhene of the traditional advice from Wassa Fiase. .
He argued that Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko II had been authorized by the Western and National House of Chiefs to be reinstated to continue his reign as Omanhene after his 2002 conviction by the Sekondi High Court for contempt.
Nana Abena Kunadjoa II also requested the transfer of the Registrar from the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council, for allegedly exaggerating his mandate and showing great disrespect to Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko II and all members of the royal family.
He also called for an immediate audit of all transactions on the finances of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council.
Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko II was convicted in 2002 by the Sekondi High Court for contempt and subsequently dismissed after his conviction.
Odeneho, after serving his prison sentence, appealed the contempt charge to the Court of Appeals, where he was crushed in July 2003.
The Judicial Committee of the Western Region House of Chiefs on August 19, 2015 ruled in favor of Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko II, stating that there was no valid dismissal of Odeneho, so the Supreme Chief was not removed in April 2002.
Endorsing the Queen Mother, Wassa Fiase Traditional Council Public Relations Officer Fiifi Ampong asked President Akufo-Addo to help the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council re-establish Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko II as the Supreme Head of the Traditional Council.
