Jamie Redknapp has criticized Arsenal for their ‘flat’ display during Thursday’s goalless draw against Crystal Palace.

Mikel Arteta’s team struggled to knock down their opponents who were able to create the best opportunities during the game.

He finished a four-game winning steak for the Gunners that began with a 3-1 Boxing Day win over Chelsea.

Since then they have had victories over West Brom, Brighton and then Newcastle in the FA Cup, but Sky Sports insider Redknapp says Arsenal “can’t get carried away” despite their recent good form.

He said: ‘When a team sits back but has rhythm against it, you need that first goal and then the game opens up and you have more chances at halftime. But Arsenal was flat.

‘You needed (Pierre-Emerick) Aubameyang to catch the ball and make something happen, (Alexandre) Lacazette was not as sharp as the last few weeks and the spark was not there.

“It felt really difficult with a lot of games going on, right now without the crowd it’s almost a bit monotonous, it feels like a training game.

‘(Arsenal) I can’t get carried away because they beat Newcastle, Brighton and West Brom and the Chelsea game was a derby and it was a great performance and a great victory for the manager. But it was a Chelsea performance devoid of confidence.

‘At times like this you have to be honest and say it wasn’t good enough. The positive is that Partey will be back, especially if he stays in shape. But one of those days he is not at his best and accepts the point.

Redknapp’s partner, Sky Sports expert Alex Scott, described the performance as a “reality check” for Arsenal.

She said: ‘I could sit here and get frustrated with the performance, but I think it’s a reality check of where this Arsenal team is.

“The fact that we’re talking about relying on the youngsters on this team, then really, how critical can I sit here and be when that’s what Arsenal depends on right now.

‘And although these young people have to be changed, they had to change (Bukayo) Saka from the position in which he was playing well to the left back. They are also bringing in seasoned players who aren’t really giving you anything. We have to remind ourselves of this Arsenal team when you look at it, it’s about trying to climb the table and still rebuild. ”

Arsenal are 11th in the Premier League table after the draw and hope to get back on the winning track against Newcastle on Monday.
