Chelsea icon Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink offers Tammy Abraham some advice, asking her to ‘step up’ this season
Speaking to Sky Sports (h / t Football.london), Chelsea icon and former forward Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink asked young Tammy Abraham to ‘step up’ this season and offered him some advice.
Tammy Abraham had a great season at Chelsea last year when she finished the campaign with 18 goals, 15 of them in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old has been Frank Lampard’s favorite this season over Olivier Giroud, and has scored 4 times in 15 appearances in all Blues competitions.
Abraham was retired in the 79th minute against Tottenham Hotspur in a 0-0 draw on Sunday as he couldn’t find the back of the net despite receiving a decent serve from Reece James down the right side. (American football, London)
Referring to a particular moment in the game where Abraham didn’t make the most of a brilliant cross from Reece James, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said the forward needs to improve his game.
“For me, Abraham has to do better. James can’t do any better for him, he’s put that ball in the right space. Get your head on it, no matter who you are, these are sparkly crosses. For a forward, this is what he wants, right now. These are the moments that count for Abraham, when he needs to step up.
Hasselbaink also questioned Tammy Abraham’s decision to hit the court rather than find the cross and evaluated the young man’s 2019/20 season.
Hasselbaink, who made 177 appearances and scored 88 goals for Chelsea during his time at Stamford Bridge, advised Abraham to improve his movement and put his ability to work this season.
“Sometimes I wonder if he sees clips of himself after a game because at certain times his movement should be better. His stamina may be a little better. “
Tammy Abraham could look forward to another outing when Chelsea face Spanish Sevilla this week in the UEFA Champions League. A Chelsea victory would ensure our qualification to the round of 16 as group champions.
