Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has been seen wearing Adidas boots for the first time since deciding to end his contract with Nike in September after 10 years.
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has ditched the “swoosh” for the “three stripes” in what will be seen as a monumental victory for Adidas in their battle with Nike for the biggest names in soccer.
Ramos, of course, is often seen in the Adidas-branded Real Madrid jersey and training gear. But in a photo posted on his Instagram page, the veteran defender has been caught wearing Adidas boots for the first time after 10 years with Nike.
In September, it was revealed that Ramos had decided to end his relationship with the American sportswear maker, sparking a battle over his firm that included Adidas, Under Armor, Puma and New Balance.
In the end, the 34-year-old center-back to join the German brand who already has a long-term contract with Madrid and has now started to wear the three-striped boots.
Ramos injured for Real Madrid-Alavés
Real Madrid play Alavés this Saturday night, however Adidas will have to wait a bit longer to see their new brand ambassador kicking a match ball in Adidas boots.
Ramos has missed Madrid’s last two games after suffering a hamstring injury in Spain’s 6-0 win over Germany during the recent international break.
The Madrid captain, who continues his recovery at Madrid’s Valdebebas training ground, is expected to be available again next week.
Ramos joins Messi, Pogba, Salah and Bale in Adidas books
Ramos joins teammates Marcelo, Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos and Tottenham loan Gareth Bale in the Adidas books, as well as Lionel Messi, Paul Pogba, Mohamed Salah, Manuel Neuer, James Rodríguez and Roberto Firmino.
Now that Spain’s most capped player is starting a new sponsorship deal with Adidas, he has yet to sign a new contract with Real Madrid, where his current contract ends in June 2021.
While there has been speculation that he links him to other clubs, including Manchester United and even David Beckham’s Inter Miami, the veteran Whites captain is expected to put a new deal in writing at the Bernabéu in the coming months.
