Real Madrid signed with Eder Militao and Luka Jovic in the summer of 2019 for a combined total of € 110m, and they must back both young players to their full potential in 2020.
As usual in soccer, there have been rampant rumors linking young people. Real Madrid highlights Luka Jovic and Eder Militao for moving away from the Santiago Bernabéu despite the fact that both men signed for the team in the transfer window of the summer of 2019.
Everyone from Arsenal to Tottenham to Napoli have been linked with Militao and Jovic, but there seems to be a disconnect. While the rumor says that Real would like to resign from Jovic and Militao, local media reports and basic logic dictate that Los Blancos will not do such a thing. And that became especially clear during the COVID-19 pandemic, since neither Jovic nor Militao would have much transfer value. At least Jovic, who suffered a foot fracture and is mired in more controversial rumors.
Beyond selling neither Jovic nor Militao, Real Madrid must go further, and the fan base must be included in this.
It is very important to support both Jovic and Militao, supporting them in the long term. Real made significant investments in both players. Militao was bought for € 50 million from FC Porto after a stellar season, which includes top-class displays in the UEFA Champions League. Jovic was an even bigger star in the Bundesliga and the Europa League for Eintracht Frankfurt as one of the best scorers in European football.
Both players have world-class potential and they showed it last season. Militao had an incredible month of January, showing composure on the ball and brilliant defensive work alongside Raphael Varane. Jovic scored a couple of late goals and averaged more goals and assists (fewer penalties) for 90 minutes than anyone on the team in all competitions, according to FBRef.com. He even had a winning backheel assist for Casemiro in a 2-1 victory over Sevilla.
Furthermore, both Jovic and Militao can be long-term successors to the legends of Real Madrid. Jovic has all the tools to be the No. 9 of the future, taking the mantle of Karim Benzema. Although he is a completely different player, his ability to score goals and his underestimated passing ability could make him a tremendous successor.
As for Militao, he could lead the way alongside Varane when Sergio Ramos retires. Both Ramos and Benzema are still among the best players in La Liga, but they will disappear in a couple of years. And already, Militao has shown that he has the traits to displace Ramos sooner rather than later as a great replacement.

Real Madrid have two potentially special players in Jovic and Militao. They are not the end product yet, but both men are under 24 and already productive at the Champions League level. Fully backing them up can only lead to bigger things for these young stars.
