In Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid has one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and after leading the League in save percentage and clean sheet percentage last season, it can be argued that they are the fittest goalkeeper in 2020.
Courtois needs to rest, however, and his reserve, young Andriy Lunin, needs opportunities. Last year’s substitute Alphonse Areola, on loan from PSG, was a useful substitute, but he was content with having limited playing time. Lunin, on the other hand, needs minutes to continue his development, especially after the first half of his 2019-2020 stalled on loan at Real Valladolid.

While Courtois has recovered from a hip injury, the Cádiz match is a perfect opportunity for Los Blancos to give Lunin a chance to start on goal at home. Cádiz is not easy to convince and they have an experienced La Liga striker in Álvaro Negredo, but Real is expected to win easily.
Lunin has all the tools to become a great goalkeeper for Real Madrid or another club. That is why it is imperative that Zidane give him some starts, even if it is difficult to bank Courtois, who has been so crucial for Real Madrid last year.

Courtois’ recent hip injury is all the more reason to start Lunin and give the Belgian goalkeeper some extra rest, just in case. Nothing against Cádiz, which cannot be underestimated, but Real Madrid does have more important upcoming games, specifically the Clásico on October 24 at the Camp Nou. The winner of the Zamora Trophy will be especially crucial then.
