Ray Clemence’s daughter has posted an emotional tribute on social media to her father following the passing of the soccer legend last week on Sunday.
The former England goalkeeper and manager died at the age of 72 after battling illness, with tributes to the former Liverpool and Tottenham footballer even since his passing was announced.
Clemence’s daughter Julie Davis posted a video of some treasured photos and videos of the former footballer with her family and revealed how proud she was of her father.
The Twitter post read: ‘This morning heaven won an angel … My dad fought his best battle to the end, but now he’s at peace.
‘Dad, you lived your best life and I was always so proud of you, I love you #YoullNeverWalkAlone #LFC.’
Clemence won three European Cups, five league titles, two UEFA Cups and one FA Cup while at Liverpool, before earning further honors with Tottenham in the 1980s.
The goalkeeper retired in 1989, but assumed a coaching role with the England team, where he played 61 games during his playing days.
He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2005 and in October this year it was revealed that he was seriously ill.
Among the high-profile faces in football to pay tribute to Clemence was Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish, who played with Clemence at Anfield.
The former Liverpool number seven said on Sunday: ‘We have lost a true legend. Clem was a fantastic teammate and it was great to be around.
“I will never forget how he helped me settle in at Anfield. Our thoughts are with the Clemence family.
Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports on Sunday: ‘A true legend of the game, such a nice man and a very kind human being. An amazing goalkeeper too.
“He was such a brave man, he suffered for a long time. My thoughts go to his family and to all of football. He did (his job) with so much class. ‘
Ahead of England’s game with Belgium last weekend, Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate added: “He has been a great servant for England. Not just for two massive clubs, but also for England.
“An amazing goalkeeper and he represented England for a long time and (did a lot of work) behind the scenes in the FA.”
