Jospong Group CEO Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong has praised the late former Chairman Jerry John Rawlings, describing him as someone who was “fair, firm and principled.”
“The late former president, Jerry John Rawlings, is a righteous, steadfast and principled person who knows what he wants and is looking for it,” he said.
He said it on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) after signing the book of condolences to sympathize with the family of the late president.
According to Dr. Siaw Agyepong, former President Rawlings had truly been a friend and a leader whose principles he had upheld.
Addressing reporters after signing a condolence book, he said the former head of state was like a “father to him who can be described differently by the world, but when you approach him, you would see him as a completely different person. “.
“I got very close to him as the president of a company as part of my decision to seek the advice of leaders, then I came to know who he really was,” he said.
He said that Mr. Rawlings was a principled person who knew that what he wanted was always going for him. He urged Ghanaians to emulate some of the late president’s principles and attributes to improve Ghana.
Dr. Siaw Agyepong noted that the country had lost a good man who would risk his life to do things the right way.
“A man who walks and sees a mess that has caused a traffic jam and gets out of his car to direct traffic. A man who can stoop so low to get things done right deserves to be appreciated.”
Former President Rawlings, the country’s longest-serving head of state, died at Korle Bu University Hospital on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at age 73, the family announced.
Later that day, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ordered all flags to fly at half-staff for seven days, as the nation mourns the subsequent former president.
