Manchester United must respond emphatically as they prepare to face Newcastle following their beating at the hands of Tottenham, insists Marcus Rashford.
The 22-year-old striker played the full 90 in a 6-1 humiliation at home to Tottenham in his last game, and says his team has to produce a great performance at Newcastle on Saturday in the Premier League.
The Red Devils are currently out of the relegation zone, after losing two of their first three games this season.
‘This is the chance to recover. Newcastle is a great game anyway, but this is an even bigger game because of the latest result, ” Rashford told Sky Sports.
“When you lose a game, you want another one as soon as possible, you want to regain that winning feeling in the team. We don’t just want to win, we want to win in a way that we can be proud of.
“We want to work hard, not just for ourselves, but for the guy on our left and right and do it as a team. We want to score three points together and then move on to the next game, that’s the way it should be. It has to change, if not then it is not what Manchester United is about.
The English striker, who has earned widespread praise for championing charitable causes throughout the year, also insists that he welcomes the competition new signing Edison Cavani will bring to Old Trafford.
“Hopefully he comes in and scores goals, because he can definitely help us win games and points,” he said.
“He can be a huge player for us this season. To win two or three trophies in a season you need a team, it is not possible if you don’t have people who can score goals one week and the next week, it simply is not possible without three or four forwards in a team.
“Growing up, United always had four or five forwards who could score goals at any time. The closer we get to that, the more strength we will have.
