Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member Ras Mubarak says he will submit an offer as evidence to back up claims that the state-owned Exim Bank paid musician Shatta Wale ¢ 2 million to work as an ambassador Of the brand.
This comes after Bank management denied the allegations, insisting that the services of entertainment personalities had been sought through an outside media consultant.
This, explained the Deputy Executive Director with supervision of the Administration and Finance Division, Kwame Adu-Darkwa, was to support them in promoting their product as necessary.
But he insisted that he has not signed or seen any check for ¢ 2 million to any artist.
Speaking to JoyNews, Ras Mubarak said: “I can tell you with certainty that a large amount of money has been given to the artist and others.”
“I want to present it to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in parliament for consideration.”
He said he does not understand why such colossal money will be given to a person when the country is still dealing with the effects of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, James Klutse Avedzi, says he will make a decision next week on whether to summon musician Shata Wale over the alleged payment of ¢ 2 million to him by Exim Bank.
He said the accusation is not in the report presented to the committee by Exim bank.
“It is a matter of public interest. So we will take our time, we will look for the information that the member has and once we get that information, we will invite the Exim Bank officials to appear again. “
Mr. Avedzi said that if evidence is found that Shatta Wale actually received a payment, he may be asked to repay some of the money if the work he did for the bank is not worth that sum of money.
