A member of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Ras Mubarak, has questioned the management of the Ghana Exim Bank over the alleged payment of ¢ 2 million GH to dancehall artist Shatta Wale to promote Made in Ghana products.
At the PAC hearing on Wednesday September 9, the Kumbungu legislator indicated that it was not astute of Exim Bank to pay such an amount to an artist.
“I mentioned GH ¢ 2 million that went to Shatta Wale, but the Deputy Executive Director says they wouldn’t know who the vendor selected. And this is not to say that we have a problem with Shatta Wale getting a certain amount of money to do any work, but the Ghanaian public deserves to know how much was spent and who got it because their responses were not satisfactory. “
In response to the question, the Bank’s Deputy Executive Director, Kwame Adu-Darkwa, said that brand ambassadors play an important role in promoting a particular sector.
“You will be surprised how good brand ambassadors can be at promoting a particular industry. Sometimes the thing to do is, if you’ve done an amazing job, it will be good for people to know what their options are, and having a good brand ambassador to do that makes sense. “
