Quit Black Stars with honor to save your name – advised Gyan

Ghanaian legend Rev Osei Kofi has advised Asamoah Gyan to leave the Black Stars “honorably” as he believes the legendary forward’s time is up.

Gyan has been a member of Black Stars since 2003 and has scored a record 51 goals.

However, he last played for the team at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt. Since the tournament, Gyan has not been invited to the team.

Last weekend, Akonnor made changes to the team’s leadership and eliminated the captain-general position from Gyan. Ayew remained captain, with Thomas Partey and goalkeeper Richard Ofori appointed as assistant captains.

Many believe the decision means that Gyan, who currently has no club, is not in Akonnor’s plans.

And in agreement with the 1965 African Cup of Nations winner, he advised Gyan to announce his retirement from the team.

“A good name is better than riches and if Gyan listens to me, he should leave Black Stars because he is not the Gyan we used to know.”

“I think he should honorably resign from the team to save his name,” he told Angel FM.

Gyan has been training in Ghana since his contract with Indian club NorthEast United ended in January.
