PSG vs Manchester United: Scott McTominay played ‘with one eye’ after losing the contact lens

McTominay put on one of several impressive displays as United kicked off their Champions League campaign with a famous victory at the Parc des Princes.

Marcus Rashford’s late goal sealed a well-deserved three points, which were only threatened when Anthony Martial headed in his own goal to nullify Bruno Fernandes’ penalty in the first half.

Otherwise, United were largely in control, thanks in large part to the midfield partnership of McTominay and Fred, with the pair closing out Neymar and Kylian Mbappé.

Solskjaer praised his midfield duo after the final whistle, describing their performances as “outstanding”, especially since McTominay had played much of the first 45 minutes with poor eyesight.

“They are in good shape now, they are good players and they played very well against Newcastle,” Solskjaer said of the Scottish international and Fred.

“They laid the foundation for victory in that game and they also laid the foundation for today.

“Scotty played the first half with one eye too, that was the most impressive, because he lost his contact lens. That was impressive.”

Solskjaer added: “We know that when we go here against players and a team like this with players like Neymar and pe we have to defend well and David will have to make some good saves.

“We play against a fantastic team, so we have to defend well and that is the key: that the players are willing to work very hard for each other.”
