The new contracts of Neymar, Kylian Mbappé and Angel Di Maria are on the Paris Saint-Germain agenda.
Paris Saint-Germain is in talks with Neymar and Kylian Mbappé on contract extensions and will seek to advance in the coming weeks, assured sports director Leonardo.
Neymar and Mbappé are the two most expensive players in the world, and they have joined PSG for 222 million and 180 million euros respectively.
Both attacking superstars are in the last two years of their existing deals., however, making the club potentially vulnerable in the next transfer windows.
PSG is determined to keep the duo in the French capital and has already opened negotiations, with Angel Di Maria – no contract at the end of 2020-21 – another key objective for Leonardo.
“We must adapt to the current context with the coronavirus pandemic“he said in a question and answer session on PSG’s social media channels.
“With Neymar, Mbappé, [Angel] From maria [Juan] Bernat and even the young players, are all extensions for which we have already started discussions and we will try to intensify this in the coming weeks.
“We have started talking [with Neymar]. There is the moment; at the moment people can’t even move [in the transfer market]. There is the idea of renovating.“
Mbappé has been constantly linked to a signing for Real Madrid, but Leonardo is not worried about the noise in Spain.
“There is a lot of talk,” he said. “And in Spanish teams there is a lot of politics. We spoke directly to Kylian, that’s the truth of the negotiation.
“The truth is that PSG is in a difficult moment, but it will be the team of the next five years that will have a chance.
“There are teams that have gone through a very long and successful cycle and are beginning to have problems. We have young players but with a lot of experience.
“We have Neymar, Mbappé, who are among the top three [in the world] why [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Lionel] Messi will leave with age.
“That’s the idea. I see this future and that’s what we’re working on.
“We know this season is strange. We knew it would be difficult, that we will play all our games behind closed doors and that we would not have the same income.”
But PSG’s immediate concerns regarding Neymar and Mbappé are their respective returns to fitness.
Between coronavirus cases, suspensions and injuries, Neymar has played just six times in all competitions this season, while Mbappé has been limited to eight appearances.
Both have blows ahead of the international break, but each has been called up by their national teams.
“If it is an official call, the club cannot say anything, even if the player is injured,“said Leonardo, who defended PSG’s terrible injury record this season.
Federations insure PSG
“There have been moments of shock and moments in which we tried to have something logical, some common sense.
“With Brazil and France it was clear: they are injured, they have a schedule, they have to respect time [required to get fit]. They follow a program as if they were here.
“They will not play the first match with their national teams, perhaps the second. That is the only thing we could do.
“The federations assured us that they were not going to take any risks with the health of our players. So the calendar is hell. We will try to live with it but it is incredible.”
