Security analyst Adid Saani has described the move to deploy police personnel to protect members of Parliament as disloyal to citizens.
According to Adib Saani, Ghanaians appear to have been left to their own devices when it comes to security following the government’s decision.
This comes after Interior Minister Ambrose Dery announced in Parliament on October 13, 2020 the government’s decision to provide lawmakers with armed security personnel amid the assassination of Mfantseman’s MP Ekow Hayford Quansah.
In an interview with GhanaWeb on October 14, security analyst Adib Saani, reacting to the development, said: “Parliamentarians, like other professionals, are exposed to serious dangers by the nature of their work and therefore They need security, but nevertheless I find the shift to providing security for bogus MPs and a betrayal of the common people of Ghana who, it seems, have been left to their own devices. “
He also opined that police officers who can be assigned to legislators can only do so much, as criminals always find sophisticated means to launch attacks on people.
Furthermore, it is impractical to think that a policeman sitting in the car of a deputy or minister gives him invincibility. The criminals have become so ruthless and reinforced in their operations to the point of chasing bullion vans and even attacking police stations and officers in broad daylight, ”he explained.
However, he was concerned that the Ghana Police Service did not have the necessary numbers to deal with the widespread sense of insecurity in the country, especially in an election year.
