Ablekuma West Member of Parliament Ursula Owusu-Ekuful described Democratic National Congress running mate Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as one who does not advocate for the empowerment of women.

According to her, the former Minister of Education does not have a soundtrack record for the advancement of women’s rights, the protection of women and gender equality.

Speaking on the Eyewitness News segment of Citi TV on September 9, 2020, monitored by GhanaWeb, the Minister of Communications said: “Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman does not believe in the gender agenda because when she was Minister of Education, there were more female teachers in training than men at that time, but her policies allowed female teachers to receive three months’ salary for three years of work and that affected to most teachers.

“. . So she [Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman] took deliberate actions that damaged the purchasing power of women. It also canceled the subsidy for teachers in training and several of them had to abandon their respective programs, “she added.

The Ablekuma West MP noted that Ghanaians have already experienced the mandate of the John Mahama administration and that not much has changed in how people see it and therefore urged the population to be prudent in exercising of their right to vote.

Ghanaians will go to the polls on December 7, 2020 to elect a president as part of a four-year constitutional term in a general election.

The competition that is likely to be enthusiastic will see John Dramani Mahama, standard-bearer of the Democratic National Congress, compete against Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the current President of the Republic and standard-bearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
