A defendant brought before the Kaneshie District Court in connection with the murder of law professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh is said to have fallen ill and is currently admitted to the Police Hospital.
The development of Opambour Agya Badu Nkansah comes just a week after another defendant, James Nana Womba, died in police custody.
According to the police, Nana Womba became ill while in their custody and was receiving treatment at the Police Hospital when she died.
While updating the court on the progress of the investigations, the police prosecutor, Inspector Teye Okuffo, revealed that the deceased was treated and discharged, but became ill again and died.
He informed the court that one Ebenezer Kwayisi had also been detained as an accessory to the deceased.
This means that there are currently two defendants, Opambour Agya Badu Nkansah and Ebenezer Kwayisi.
The case was then postponed until November 9, 2020.
Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh was allegedly assassinated at his Adjiriganor mansion in Accra.
His body was found days later with his hands tied and a cloth in his mouth.
While four people were initially detained as suspects, three were discharged.
They were, Christian Pobee, 32, cleaner; Isaac Botchwey, 41, servant; cleaner; and Adams Mensah Mansur, 52, gardener.
